The Geek vs The Glamour

For the past few days I've been considering whether to buy a new camera for the VLogs or a new pair of boots. I've been truly torn between my glamdiva self and my inner geek.

I'd been looking at a small camcorder for doing the VLogs, nothing too fancy but something with a rotatable screen (so I'm not tied to the mirror and can aim properly when outside) and had settled on a £120 Toshiba model.

The other option was boots, I'd seen a rather nice pair of over the knee boots in the Pleaser range for about £80, but then came emails like this.
Unless you have been living in the Amazon jungle for the last year you couldn't help but notice that the £ has been taking a severe battering by the $ and Euro. We have swallowed the losses for months hoping that the £ would go up (which it hasn't). We cannot afford take the 25% mark-down on the currency any longer so, from midnight Sunday (Monday morning) the prices will have to rise by 25% on, Demonia, Pleaser & Devious footwear and Laughing Vampire clothing.

So most of the bootsellers are raising their prices, oh well, boots will have to wait

So camcorder it is, only Amazon are out of stock and estimated delivery is somewhere between mid December and mid January - still Me in High Definition might be worth it ;)

Mobile Post: Saving

I've started a penny jar bottle to save for pretty things as well as next years whitby. So far i have the grand total of 24p, though that is based on the contents of my walletpurse at work today, hopefully will have a lot more before long.

I do hate working lates on a Friday or Saturday night. Too many drunk callers for my liking. They are more rude and obnoxious then the daytime customers.

Curse the Euro Pound Relationship

Germany is looking less likly as the currency is complete crap at the moment. With the Pound approaching parity it looks like its going to be unaffordable. In better news it looks like Whitby in October is going to be very much more affordable - will have to wait for confirmation on that though :)

That may mean I have more to spent on glamour!

Cold!

It's absolutly freezing today so all thoughts of glamour have been abandoned in favour of multiple layers for warmth.

I'll be working the next few days, so not much in the way of glamour at the weekend either *sobs*

So in an attempt to inspire me for when things are a bit better, here are a couple of pictures from last week

Going to Germany?

I'm really hoping that a very good lead on a new job comes through - I've been looking around on the net and have seen that quite a few of my favourite bands are (probably) playing the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig next year. If it comes through then I should be able to afford to go. If it doesn't then I think I'm going to be doing a lot of overtime! I hope I know fairly soon, I would rather not end up having to get back to a Travelodge on the very edge of the city each night - an hour on the Tram each way was a bit much.

Actually there is quite a lot of things I'd like at the moment - I think I might have to work that overtime anyway.

Daytime Lurkings

I am quite liking this as a look for daytime lurkings. In fact if you change the jeans for black and make the coat more coat and less cape then you have a good idea of what I wore into town yesterday morning.

Yep I've been out and about en femme again, after a brief hiatus where work and illness got in the way. Went quite a bit further then before, (GmapsPedometer reckons 1.5 miles or about 2km) which when combined with a twisted sock meant I had a huge and painful blister on my foot when I got back. Must. Harden. Feet. Up.

Plans for the weekend are mostly work based. I foolishly left my card in the supermarket so having cancelled that I have to live a £10 note (lucky I'd bought all the food just before I lost the card) so anything that involves spending money is obviously a no-no!

Going over the Knee

I found this while having a nose around flickr for daytime outfit ideas and I must say I am very much liking those boots. Apparently over the knee boots are in fashion (there is a gorgeous pair in Faith at the moment that I can't afford - and they have sold out of my size which doesn't help!). So it raises the thought of me digging out my leather thigh highs from Penangalan. Given that I'm becoming more used to heels it is very tempting. Hopefully they will be more successful this time round, the first time I wore them I made it about 200 yards!

I will of course let you know how this turns out.

Party Animal

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been suffering with the dregs of this lurgy, normal service is slowly resuming :)

In the end the genderswap party didn't happen. With the omnipresent threat of encounting a large group of marine trainees on release from barracks it was abandoned. I did wear girl trousers and stuff, but decided to forgo the heels and corset. In the end we needn't have worried. Exmouth was completely dead and the club had more of a private party feel.

I also had the delights of a house party on Saturday, where I did get some hassle from the host's cousin for being quite feminine, in his words I was likley to be beaten up for it. Apparently he was being nasty to others as well and the host's girlfriend wanted him thrown out. So I think thats one to ignore.

Anyway going back to the glamour - I'm wondering if the short skirt (or shorts) with black tights look would suit me. I think I'll have to take a trip to Primark later in the week and give it a try.

Oh and watch out for a VLOG update in the next day or so... I'll keep experimenting to see if I can get better results with my camera

Preparing for Torture

Today is a day I've not been looking forward to, in just over an hour I've got an appointment with the dentist. What is making me more nervous is that the nice German dentist that I trusted has walked out so I have no idea what is in store for me this afternoon.

My lurgy is starting to dry up, just in time for me to go back to work tomorrow, I am off the weekend though so hopefully will be completely better by then.

I do think work colleagues are going to twig about girl me on Friday night. A group of us are going out, with boys as girls and girls as boys. I'm slightly nervous because it's in Exmouth, which is where Royal Marine recruits go on their weekend releases from the nearby training camp. Hopefully nothing drastic will happen.

Lastly I finally got to see The Incredibles last night, Edna Mode is scarily familiar darlings! Though I'm not as short!

Hiding

Whilst I might now be confident to strut my stuff on the streets of this city, I'm currently on a mission to hide my girl stuff. My dad is coming over tomorrow to fix the shower and I'm not out to him as yet (Mum knows but he doesn't officially), so I've been tidying and moving all the boots and other things to the bedroom until tomorrow afternoon.

Annoyingly I have also managed to acquire the dreaded lurgy from somewhere, my throats been awful for the last day or so and now my nose is streaming. Hopefully it will get a bit better now I have a couple of days off and so can rest up. The constant talking I have to do at work can't have helped. Another reason to get away from working in a call centre.

Anyway I need to head to bed now and hopefully I will be able to take a shower by tomorrow evening :)

Thoughts on makeup and hair

This is the sort of thing I'm currently aiming for with my makeup (and possibly hairstyling). Am wondering if I could style my fake hair similarly or would I need to aquire a similar weave to the Lady Erika.

What new horror is this!

It appears that the insidious forces of Ugg and Croc have decided to get together without taking precautions.

I give you the horror of the CrocUgg!

VILEVILEVILEVILEVILEVILE!

I suspect I'll be seeing them on Sidwell Street Yokels when the rip offs appear.

New Buy: Next Boots

OK these aren't that new - I've had them a month or so now and they are certainly one of my current favourites. They came from Next, so are expensive by my standards but they are one of the few non-fetish retailers that do footwear in larger sizes. They are very soft leather with a chunky heel (I'm not steady in stilettos), zip up the inside and have a very cute buckle detail. I tend to wear them over trousers as per the current fashion (because its a fashion I approve of)

Its this pear that I've been wearing out of late, much like my Demonia Gothikas they are proving suitable for all day wear without too much discomfort.

Shower Update

Well it looks like I need expert help. I took the cover off the switch and its been arcing and is a real mess. Hence the circuit breaker tripping.

Have decided not to glam this morning. My intentions were to do so, but I probably should do the less glam things of housework especially if I'm going to have the shower fixed. I need a tidy flat :)

There is always tomorrow :)

Very unglam

I'm very unglam today as I both overslept and had the circuit breaker trip today, so no shower and no time for glam.

I have however been to New Look and bought a rather nice beret style hat for £6 :) Will take a picture tomorrow.

I also need to make another trip to Primark soon to find some more tops and possibly some skirts (as I've lost weight only one of mine actually fits me.

Finally I saw a gorgeous pair of PURPLE (!) leather opera gloves in the window of Reiss. However looking at their website they are very expensive and for that price I would expect them to be properly sized - not just S/M & M/L. I can do Large, just not Medium/Large which is almost always nearer Medium

VLOG: Episode 4 - Coming and Going out!

Click click without the Ow!

I think the foot pain in heels might just be a practice thing, as I went for a much longer walk this morning and heels wern't a problem. Infact it was a walk into the city centre, round the shops and back :) Big Confidence boost there! Outfit was the same as the previous (will look into getting more daytime stuff when I next have time to lurk properly). I did reduce my makeup to just foundation, pencil eyeiner and lippy to make it slightly easier to remove. I think I might repeat the process tomorrow. After all practice makes perfect. Think I also should tidy up my brows as well as they are starting to look abit ragged.

The reason I would need to remove rapidly is that I started boi work at 1pm, I'm on the Rota of Doom this week - 60 hours in 7 days and my next day off is a week today - really not good.

Halloween

Yesterday was another step further for me as I was brave enough to go out for a short (more due to my feet not being used to boots without platform soles) walk around the block. I did get a few looks as my style is still slightly unconventional by the standards of this city (its not known for it's fashion sense) but my confidence is growing and as my feet become more accustomed to walking without a cushioning platform then I'll stretch further. I decided to wear one of the new coats with a sweater and large belt, black jeans tucked into knee high boots. I topped off the look with a fuzzy scarf and leather opera gloves going under the coat's three quarter sleeves.

I had my first night out for a while last night (I mostly work shifts and am invariably working late whenever anything good is on). Drusilla and I took a trip to the halloween party at C103 in Plymouth. I decided to go androgynous rather then all out girl, the club is in a very dubious area of Plymouth and I wasn't sure how close we could park, in the end it wasn't an issue. Though I think the look suited me. After a while queuing in the cold outside we spent the night monsterwatching (like peoplewatching but monsters), spotting amongst others: Bananaman, Darth Vader (and Stormtroopers), Bender, Batman and Robin, Frank-n-furter, Facebook (yes really!), Slipknot, American Magee's Alice and Beetlejuice. We left about 3 to drive back to Exe. Finally getting in about 4:30 *exhausted etc*

Is a pity that the next good looking night out is Deviant UK - and I'm working :(

Today I've not bothered to glam, just wrapped up in much fleeceage, might be out later (Alternative 80's night at one of the local bars) and will see what I can cook up :)
